Scotland, days 5 and 6

Day 5

This day was more like a "chill-out" day. I mostly spend my day with my host family.

My host family's father gave me a tour around their farm.

Traditional scottish/english rock wall.

My host family's farm. They should have build their house on the top of the hill, because the view from the hill was awesome!

On the afternoon we visited with the other exhangees in a huge dairy farm. The were lots of weird robots doing most of the farm works.

Robot pushing hay closer the cows.
On the farm there was this kind of milking robots. Cows just walked inside the machine and the robot started to milk them.

On the evening we did have a treasure hunt.
In the treasure hunt, groups of 3-5 got a questions, and they did have to find the answers to questions during driving with a car on the country roads. It was quite fun, even the questions were too hard for me, I understood only three questions, and there were like 30 questions :'D

After the treasure hunt was a disco. Too bad that I was so tired after treasure hunt. I was just sitting in the corner watching the pretty disco lights on the ceiling XD

Day 6

Another chill-out day. Because I got so much free time, I desided to tell about Finland to my host family.

I did have my birthday on that day. It was quite weird to spend my 19th birthday in Scotland.
My host family made me a surprise: They made me a birthday cake and I also got a tiny present!

Last time I did have candles in my birthday cake when I was 10 years old, I think. So I didn't know anymore how to blow them off XD

Birthday present from my first host family.

On the evening we went to someone's 21st birthday party.
( I don't have no idea who the birthday hero was..)

I did have so fun there, I danced so much that my legs were hurting when we driving back to host family's house XD

Scotland, day 4

At the morning, we went to the local kindergarden to get a boy named Lochlan (4). My host family's mother takes care of him couple days in a week. Lochlan went shy when he saw me and didn't want to come with us to my host family's house : D

Well, we finally got back to house. I remembered that I had took some tiny Angry Birds -balls with me to Scotland, so I asked that does Lochlan like Angry Birds.
And of course he did. We were throwing the red Angry Birds -ball to each others, and Lochlan wasn't so shy anymore. Unfortunately I couldn't play with Lochlan longer, because we were going to Culzean Castle on the same day.

Later I heard from my host family's mother, that Lochlan desided to take the Angry Birds -ball with him to kindergarden on the next day. They did have somekind of special day in kindergarden, when everyone have to take some important toy or something else with them, and tell the story of the toy.
Well, I was more than happy that Lochlan liked the Angry Birds ball >u<

So, we went to the Culzean Castle with other exhangees. The castle and it's garden were amazing! I really would like to go and visit again on the castle...

Road to the castle in the tiny forest.
The beautiful garden

The main building

We also went inside the castle. I could take only couple of pictures there, because one of the exhangees came to say me that it's not allowed to take photos inside the castle. Too bad, the rooms were like from Jane Austen movies, I would have wanted to take more photos from inside.

The first room inside the castle was full of old guns. These guns are above the fireplace.
And more old guns.

After returning back to my host family's home, I went to cow house and I had to help milk the cows. I haven't milked the cows never before. Or if I have, I just don't remember it.

After milking the cows I was literally covered with cow's shit :'D
And oh that lovely smell.. <3

My host family's father feeding a baby calf. The calf was really cute, it was so young that it could somehow only stand, but walking was still hard for it.

Scotland, day 3

Finally, the day when we would meet our first hostfamilies.

But before that, we went to local farm, and after that to big city Glasgow.

There was nice views on the farm we visited.

In Glasgow we visited in Art Gallery and Museum. The building was huge, and it looked more like a castle than museum!

Glasgow's Art Gallery and Museum.
The ceiling inside the building.

There were lots of beautiful paintings in the gallery, but also an Ancient Egypt, the History of Scotland, dinosaur and animal exhibition!

All the animals are like filled real animals. The elephant was huuuge!

Old clothes.

I really liked the Art Gallery and Museum, because in Finland this kind of exhibitions are much smaller.

Next we went from Glasgow to windmill farm. There were so many windmills, and they were the biggest windmills I have ever saw!

We arrived to Ayshire district on the evening, and we ate in nice restaurant where we met our hostfamilies.

My new home.
"My room".
View from the room's window.
I really like my new host family and their home. Too bad that I can spend only one week with them...

Scotland, days 1 and 2

Day 1

So, first day was reaaallllyyy long day, because I had to stay 6 hours in Amsterdam airport. Luckily I found a nice place to take a nap:

There were also some other people sleeping (as you can see the background?)
It was so quiet in there, and you could hear some "forest voices" on the background while sleeping, like bird singing and etc. There was also tiny science centre for the children.

There Amsterdam airport is huge! When people got tired after walking in this huge building, they used these things:

These are like 200 meters long. If you feel tired after walking, use these.
Finally in Scotland! The view from the plane.

At the evening of the first day we went to restaurant with the other IFYEs. But people were so tired after travelling, so we all went to sleep right away after we got back to hostel from restaurant.

Day 2

On the morning, before 8 am, you could already hear the voice of Scottish bagpipe from the streets.

We went to the Scotland's parliament house in Edinburgh with other exchangees. The building was quite interesting.

Scotland's parliament house from outside.
Parliament house from inside.
The windows of Parliament house from inside.
After the Parliament house visit, we went to Scottish Young Farmers office near Edinburgh's airport. There we got some more information about our stay in Scotland and our hostfamilies.

We returned to our hostel and desided to take a bus tour around the Edinburgh with other IFYE exchangees.

The Edinburgh castle!
We went quite close the castle with the tour bus.

The city of Edinburgh is surprisingly warm even it's windy and raining. In this kind of weather I would freeze in Helsinki or Tampere. But here it's so warm! : O

At the evening, we did have somekind of formal dinner in a cool restaurant.
(Girls had to wear dress and boys something formal)
On the dinner we met lot of members of Scottish Young Farmers. During the evening, we heard traditional Scottish songs by one of the quests, who was wearing a Scottish kilt! Unfortunately he didn't play sackpipe... We also danced, and when we got back to hostel, my legs were hurting u__u''

Scotland, here I am!

So, finally in Scotland!

I arrived here on Monday 10.6. It was quite long day, first 2 hours flight from Helsinki to Amsterdam by plane, then 6 hours wait in Amsterdam and then 1 hour flight to Edinburgh.

The hostel where we stayed. From the hostel was an awesome view to Edinburgh castle!

The hostel room where I slept with couple other IFYE exchangees.

The weather has been really sunny! Which is weird, because there should be raining all the time in Scotland!

The other IFYE exchangees come from Wales, United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, USA, Australia, Austria, Kanada, Switzerland and Sweden.

Luckily there's a girl from Sweden, because we can together try to communicate with the Scottish people. Most of the other exchangees mother language is English, so it's easy for them to speak with Scottish people.

So far I have liked Scotland very much! Food is absolutely good, and it remainds me very much about Finnish food. Example, I have ate here salt salmon, smoked salmon and mushroom soup, which you can eat also in Finland.

Okey, I will keep this first blog update from Scotland short, because the Internet is not working correctly. I will soon make updates of the first three days in here Scotland and I will tell where we have visited with other exchangees.

So aye, see ya later, aye, like the people here say XD

Scotland, here I come!

Satuin kaupasta löytämään Skotlannista kertovan kirjan, joka on tarkoitettu juurikin suomalaisille turisteille. Hyvää matkalukemista Amsterdamin lentokentälle, jolla joudun maanantaina odottamaan 6 tuntia Edinburghiin lähtevää puolen tunnin lentoa -3-''

Mutta siis, selailin tuota kirjaa, ja löysin jotain, mikä sai minut itkemään verta... ;__;

Kopio ostamani kirjan sivusta.

Siihen asti, bye bye~
